Nov 17, 2005 Statistics on Yellow Creek
Joe Ginger and I paddled Yellow Creek on Wed, Nov 17 and this is what we found using my GPS unit;
from Hideaway Park to Carsons = 5.05 miles
There were 4 trees down in the creek;
3 of the trees are within 1/4 mile downstream from the South Mill Grove Road Bridge
1 tree we barely floated under the trunk of the tree near the bank
1 tree we picked our way thru the small limbs
2 other large trees down on the creek, we floated around.
There are 10 documented shallow spots that you should probably walk your
canoe/kayak thru so you do not ding up the bottom of the boat.
And probably 2 or 3 more undocumented shallow spots. The first shallow spot
upstream from the S. Mill Grove Road Bridge is about 100 feet
long. The other shallow spots on the creek are 5 feet to 20 feet
in length.
Carsons to Krape Park = 8.22 miles
No trees were down blocking the creek.
There are 16 documented shallow spots that you should probably walk
your canoe/kayak thru so you do not ding up the bottom of the boat.
And probably 2 or 3 more undocumented shallow spots.
South Forest Road Bridge to Krape Park, .66 mile, is all open. No shallows and no big trees down blocking the creek.
total Wed paddle Hideaway Park to Krape Park Canoe Launch = 13.25 miles
We saw about 6 to 8 dead raccoons along the creek bank.
We saw 1 dead sheep carcus in the creek.
We saw 1 deer bone carcus along the creek bank.
It was a strenuous task, dirty job, to paddle the creek, but Joe & I enjoyed
every minute of it.
Lee Butler.
